New MacBook Pros will get Samsung’s fast 830 series SSD In January, following a meeting with Samsung Storage solutions at CES 2012, we told you that Apple’s next-gen MacBook Air would likely make the switch to the speedier 830 series SSDs from Samsung alongside an update to Ivy Bridge. Like the new MacBook Airs, we have been told that at least some of Apple’s prototype MacBook Pros have used Samsung’s 830 series SSDs… Specifically, a 256GB Samsung 830 SSD was in use in prototype MacBook Pro we’ve been told, but we can only assume that Apple will use these SSDs across the line in various sizes. They are available in retail packaging from 64GB to 512GB configurations. We can’t be sure if Apple will be moving to the smaller Air-type SSD in the new Pros or if they will continue to use the 2.5-inch form factor that is currently in use (or even better – both). Of course, utilizing the smaller SSDs for future MacBook Pros would also help Apple achieve the new super slim design. |

7-Inch iPad Coming This Fall, Barclays Says Barclays analysts think a new 7-inch iPad is on the way this year, according to their latest note. Here's what they say: Following up on comments made last week, recent research still leads us to believe that Apple may be planning to add another form factor to its iPad line in the 7" range for the fall. We believe that this type of product could be useful in promoting Apple's agenda in education with e-textbooks. Also, the form factor could make sense in gaming, which could become a bigger platform for Apple over time. We do not feel that a smaller, lower priced tablet will dilute the quality of the iPad brand and iOS ecosystem either, despite prior comments by the company. |

7.85-inch iPad said to use thin-film touch Apple plans to use "G/F2" thin-film touch technology for its 7.85-inch iPad, which is predicted to be out by the fourth quarter of this year, according to industry sources. The smaller version of Apple's new iPad, rumored to be called iPad Mini, is said to feature the G/F2 technology, with Nitto supplying the key thin-film materials, and Nissha Printing and TPK producing the touch screens, the sources said. Wintek, another touch module supplier for Apple, does not have thin-film touch capacity, the sources addded. |

MacBook Pro refreshes may be imminent, say reports Hints that Apple will soon refresh its iMac desktop and MacBook Pro laptop lines accumulated today as several Mac-centric blogs revealed new details gleaned from the Web and unnamed sources. Analysts who cover Apple agreed, saying that the new notebook models could appear at any time. "I don't see them waiting for WWDC," said Ezra Gottheil, an analyst with Technology Business Research. "As soon as they have enough supply built up, they'll release them." Brian Marshall of the ISI Group echoed Gottheil. "They'll just quietly put them out there when they have them ready," Marshall said. |
