iPad 10 Will Only Support The 1st Generation Apple Pencil | Requires a USB-C Apple Pencil Adapter for Charging and Pairing

iPad 10 to Support 1st Generation Apple Pencil

Apple announced the new iPad 10 with 4 different colors and USB-C ports and according to their news release, the iPad 10 will only support the 1st generation Apple Pencil.

This means that users will not be able to charge or pair their Apple Pencil without a USB-C Apple Pencil adapter.

iPad 10 Will Only Support The 1st Generation Apple Pencil

While the new iPad 10 looks like the iPad Pro with its flat design and USB-C port, it unfortunately did not inherit the ability to support the 2nd generation Apple Pencil.

Instead, users will only be able to pair the original, 1st-generation Apple Pencil that’s still in supply even 4 years after its release, but by using a USB-C Apple Pencil adapter to charge and pair the original Apple Pencil.

In a statement during the release, Apple said,

“Apple Pencil (1st generation) is compatible with the new iPad. A new USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter is required for pairing and charging and is included in the box with a new version of Apple Pencil (1st generation). For existing owners of Apple Pencil (1st generation), the USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter is sold separately and can be bought online or from the Apple store.”

The $9 adapter is currently available on Apple’s store and it comes with a USB-C connector at one end and a lightning connector on the other.

While other iPad’s that are limited to only the 1st-generation Apple Pencil won’t necessarily require an adapter to charge or pair the Pencil, the new iPad 10 does as it comes with a USB-C port and does not support the 2nd-generation Apple Pencil.
